Mary R., owner of Rosula Doula, as a toddler and her mother.

About Me

Welcome to my little corner of the internet! I hope that this website – and working together – feels like a cup of tea: a calm, comforting, and peaceful place to take a big sigh of relief, plus a big splash of realness and a spoonful of humor to let you know I’ve got this, mama.

Hello! I’m Mary, the owner and doula here at Rosula Doula. That’s a photo of my mom and me when I’m about 2.5 years old. I’m still obsessed with pink and Anastasia by 20th Century Studios.

If we were in a coffee shop right now, I’d be ordering a Chai Latte with a shot of espresso. Don’t mind if I’m moving side to side without realizing it – I’ve held so many babies in my life it’s just part of me now even when I’m not holding one!

I’m so honored that you’re considering me to be part of your support system as a birth doula, postpartum doula, newborn care specialist, or medical companion. Consider this page our introduction.

But it’s so one-sided – I want to meet you too! I’d love if you went ahead and booked a free “get to know you” call so we can meet and chat in real time.

You don't have to do this alone with a San Antonio doula holding your hand.

Who is Mary? (The longer version.)

You know how they say people plan and God laughs? He must have had a good chuckle when I decided to major in Global Security and Intelligence Studies and graduated May of 2019.

I started nannying back in 2015 as a way to pay for college…welp, turns out I loved it so much that I decided to pursue a career in caring for families and newborns!

Since then, I’ve worked with families from pregnancy to birth to postpartum and beyond as a doula (labor & birth, postpartum, bereavement/stillborn, and ~life~) and Newborn Care Specialist.

And through all of that, I’ve not only developed the practical skills of labor comfort measures, belly binding, infant massage, breastfeeding support, safe sleep, cloth diapering, etc…

…I’ve also done (and now specialize in) the really tough stuff

  • Caring for babies with GERD or getting newborn twins to sleep

  • Walking with women experiencing anxiety and trauma during pregnancy and postpartum

  • Being up at 3 am holding a mama’s hand as she gives birth or getting a baby back to sleep

And I LOVE it!

And my clients love working with me because yes, I’m compassionate and supportive and reliable, and I have a great sense of humor, but even more importantly – I’m real. I’ll cheer you on and tell you that you can do it, while also acknowledging that things just suck sometimes.

Which means that dirty diapers, rubbing your back as you throw up, holding your hand during a procedure “down there” – I’m not judging you. My specialty is in meeting you when you feel like you’re at rock bottom and walking with and supporting you until you feel like you can finally take that deep breath again.

As for my story, I have an especially compassionate heart for the vulnerable – sexual assault and abuse survivors, the homeless, and those experiencing anxiety. I volunteer at homeless shelters, including providing education on newborn care and safe sleep, and as a devout Catholic, I love bringing prayer and Christian values into my work.

When I’m not singing to one of my babies or calming one of my mamas fears, you’ll find me hanging out with my family and our dogs, going down a rabbit hole on fertility research, or playing my ukulele.

Who are you?

Clients of all walks of life have enjoyed working with me, but I find that most of my clients are seeking a comforting, judgment-free support professional who will support their values and provide an educated and holistic approach to care.

You are my people. No matter your story, no matter how exhausted or broken you feel, no matter you’ve been rejected in the past – I want to support you, and I have the training and experience to do so well.

But I especially want you to know that if you

  • Have experienced abuse, rape, homelessness, or a similar vulnerable situation

  • Have had an abortion in the past and need assistance and resources in processing your experience and embracing a new chapter

  • Are preparing for a likely stillbirth or infant death

  • Are feeling exhausted to the point of wondering how you’re going to care for your children

  • Experience crippling anxiety or trauma, especially related to medical needs
